August 4 2015 - Kingston Jamaica - Despite legal issues with releasing his Carter V album Lil Wayne recently launched his Free Weezy Album (FWA) which he has said contains some of his best work. The production is the 11th studio album from the rapper and was released on July 4th 2015.

Among the number of artistes collaborating with Weezy on several tracks is Reggae legend Junior “One Blood” Reid. The raspy singer who has collaborated with a number of hip hop greats including The Game lends his trademark vocals to the hook on track number 8 titled “Murda”. The hard-hiting track also includes verses from Young Money rappers Capo and Cory Gunz and is produced by Reefa Beats.

FWA has been billed as a somewhat rebellious production in protest of Cash Money’s stranglehold on Carter V the long awaited fifth instalment to the Carter series started by Wayne years ago. The album was prevented from being released by head of Cash Money Birdman who contended that the compilation is the property of Cash Money and therefore does not belong to Weezy who recently jumped ship. As a result of the shenanigans prevailing Lil Wayne decided to record FWA and released it on Jay-Z’s new platform Tidal.

Mixed reviews have seen the album being loved by many while others have picked out tracks to laud. “Murda” has been one of those that the streets have embraced with some YouTubers even saying that the track is the hardest on the album. The song has ripping lyrics that depict the gang bang lifestyle that pervades many city streets. On the other hand it is seen as a possible dis song – a message even – from Tunechi to the Birdman camp based on the furor that has resulted from Weezy leaving Cash Money and trying to release Carter V.

The melodic voice of in his own right turns out to be the perfect backdrop for the rapid-fire lyrics coming from Wayne Capo and Cory Gunz creating a haunting effect that complements the chaos being rapped about. Known for his infectious melodies Reid can be heard in the background harmonizing a few times adding further dimension to the song.

One of Junior Reid has been singing professionally for close to 40 years. His accolades include being part of Black Uhuru the first reggae act to win a Grammy award and the fact that his smash hit “One Blood” has been one of the most sampled and remixed reggae tracks. His talent for making up melodies and recording hit songs has seen him collaborate with numerous hip hop artistes who want to add a little spice to their tracks hence the Young Money boss including him on “Murda”.
