Dubai Chamber to participate in 9th World Retail Congress in Rome


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry is participating in the 9th World Retail Congress in Rome next month, to showcase what it has to offer to leading global retail leaders, businesses and leisure tourists.

The 9th edition of the Congress held under the theme, Retail Transformation today, tomorrow and beyond, will be attended by hundreds of leading global retail executives, who will share new thinking, latest innovations, and debate the challenges and opportunities facing the future of the retail industry.

Since its inception in 2007, the World Retail Congress has grown quickly to become an important event for retailers across the region and all international retailers globally. The 2014 edition of the Congress held in Paris, attracted over 1,300 senior retail leaders and industry experts from 73 countries including major UAE retailers such as Majid Al Futtaim, Landmark Group, Al Futtaim Group, Jumbo Electronics, Aswaaq.com, Apparel Group and many more.

Majid Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, said, "The retail sector is an important driver of economic growth for the emirate which offers some of the world's best quality retail stock, created to cater to the various consumer segments that make up Dubai's vibrant retail scene while helping to attract thousands of tourists from around the world, particularly high-spending GCC and Chinese tourists every year.

"The retailing market in the UAE was estimated to be worth AED120.8billion in 2014 as the outlook for the retail sector remains bright with strong growth expected on the back of a robust economic backdrop," he said, adding, that Dubai's retail sector has witnessed remarkable rise in the past years and has made the emirate one of the world's leading shopping destinations.

Hamad Buamim, President and CEO, Dubai Chamber, said, "We look forward to our participation in the 9th World Retail Congress along with Dubai's business leaders, especially members of the Retail Business Group which operates under the umbrella of Dubai Chamber as we are in the final stages of hosting the 10th landmark event in the emirate next year.
