(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The News of the Hour Bulletin, has praised UAE active contribution on the landmark Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the most far-reaching international decision on development in the 70-year history of the organisation.
The bulletin noted that the UAE, which led the 22-country Arab Group in the negotiations, successfully convinced the UN member states to include new goals on gender equality and sustainable energy.
Under the headline,"Emirati active role in achieving global development", the bulletin said the SDGs will be adopted by all 193 UN member countries during a summit in New York City on September 25-27, influencing government policies and trillions of dollars in spending.
The bulletin, issued by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research, ECSSR, pointed out that the UAE has many accomplishments in various fields due to its successful efforts. According to a report issued by the World Economic Forum, UAE now ranks first in the Middle East and North Africa in terms of gender equality in the quality of education, health care, and political and economic contributions.
Also there are numerous international reports that put the UAE on the top of countries seeking to shift to renewable energy and supporting global efforts in sustainable development by hosting the permanent headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency "IRENA", in addition to implementing many of the solar and wind energy projects in developed and developing countries like in Britain, Spain, Mauritania, Seychelles and others.
The UAE also ranks top among the most countries to offer grants and development aid in the world according to the classification for Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and all this offers evidence of the importance of the UAE role in supporting development efforts in the world.
The Bulletin concluded its editorial by saying that the important significance in this matter does not lie in that the UAE has become a pivotal role in the formulation of development policies in the world, but it is that the UAE has become a state of heavy weight in addressing all challenges facing the world in the modern era, including the challenges that threaten global security and stability, and its currently active participation in the fight against extremism and terrorism in the Middle East region and the world is the best proof of that.
