200 Palestinian children locked up in Israeli jails


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Israel continues its aggression against Palestinian children in the occupied territories, despite calls to end the ill-treatment of minors during and after arrests.

The Authority of Prisoners' Affairs on Wednesday released a report showed that Israel carries on arbitrary detention and abuse against 200 Palestinian minors in Ofer, Megiddo and Hasharon prisons.

The report which was published by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) revealed that the youngest Palestinian prisoner languishing behind Israeli bars is Rami Natsheh who is only 14 years old .

Natsheh, who came from the occupied city of Jerusalem, suffers from Familial Mediterranean Fever, severe abdominal pains, high body temperature and repeated vomiting, according to the report.

The number of Palestinian children detained in Hasharon prison is 39, while they numbered 63 in Megiddo and 100 are being held in Ofer prison, the data uncovered.

It said, 99 percent of the detained children are being subjected to torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment by Israeli interrogators. They were charged in the same courts as adults in addition of being deprived of education, meeting their lawyers and of access to medication.
