GM to invest USD877m to renovate Flint truck plant

(MENAFN) General Motors Co. said it will invest USD877 million to renovate its pickup truck factory in Flint, Michigan, including a series of investments to keep production of profitable pickups and SUVs rolling.

The Flint investment is part of a plan to expand three US truck plants to install new assembly lines, body assembly shops and paint operations for future generations of Silverado pickups and SUVs.

In the past, GM and its domestic rivals would shut down production for weeks to retool for new models, stockpiling vehicles in advance and then discounting them once the new model appeared.

GM announced a total of USD5.4 billion in investments in US plants since April, including the truck plant overhauls. It also outlined upgrades to other operations, including a small car assembly in Detroit.
