Qatar- Ashghal conducts training programmes for senior staff


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) carrying out infrastructure development projects worth tens of billions of dollars over the medium and long-terms, is conducting training programmes for its senior employees.

One of the courses is about how to detect and fight corruption and financial irregularities.

It is led by lecturers and experts from the United Nations, Ahmed Bin Mohamed Military College, Qatar University's Law College, and the public prosecution, in coordination with Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Centre.

The course aims to provide skills to trainees to detect and report frauds in execution of work contracts and financial and administrative irregularities and corruption in procurement of goods and services for projects and other such offences.

According to a statement issued by Ashghal yesterday, the corporation holds more than 50 training programs for its senior staff every year.

"Courses cover most of technical and administrative aspects, including contracts and tenders, first aid, workplace safety, which require specialised training such as working in narrow or high places. This is in addition to preparing courses to enhance employees' innovative skills." The programmes are part of Ashghal's support for one of the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. "Ashghal promotes investment in the development of national competence to achieve human development," the statement said.

Training programmes are for Qatari employees and so far 80 percent has been achieved as part of an initial two-year plan (2014-2016) that is subject to renewal.

Programmes include development of human resource and leadership skills, security and safety control, management of implementation of road and highway projects, training skills improvement, promotion of innovation and change, project management for non-specialists, work planning, time management, and coordination and interaction with departments.
