From birds to paper kids learn to conserve


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The Abu Dhabi City Municipality on Monday launched the 'Summer in our Libraries is Different' event at Khalifa and Bayhia Parks in collaboration with the National Library at the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

The event which runs throughout this month is part of the commitment of the Municipal System of Abu Dhabi towards instilling national values and promoting positive cultural habits. It is also aimed at encouraging children to read and gain knowledge.

This year's programme which reflects the commitment of the municipality to foster read habit is focused on protecting the environment as well as the appearance of the city and public facilities such as parks libraries and beaches.

It is tailored for children aged 6-12 years with the aim of instilling in them a sense of social responsibility. A series of workshops and edutainment events will be held for this purpose.

Abdullah Majid Al Ali Director of the National Library Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority said: "We are thrilled to cooperate with several community entities to realise our cultural objectives serve the community and enhance human thinking.

"The event is a great opportunity for children offering them a chance to practice interactive reading and engage in a series of entertainment events. It also motivates them to read and visit libraries to enhance their knowledge and interact with the community."

The programme held every Monday and Wednesday starts at 5pm and comprises a host of edutainment child-oriented events such as the story of "Sarah & the Bird which urges students to play a role in environment conservation; "Journey of a Paper" about waste recycling and "The Health City"; which guides children in making their city a healthy place for living. Colouring artistic shows and handicraft making are some of the other activities.
