(MENAFN- Arab Times) Public Works Minister Ahmed Al-Jassar should not succumb to pressure from some political groups and members of the National Assembly who have been calling for the cancellation of the decision to award the Kuwait International Airport terminal project to the winning company, says MP Majed Mousa.
In a press statement, Al-Mousa accused these political groups and parliamentarians of engaging in 'political terrorism' which disrupts the implementation of national projects. He explained the tender was awarded to the deserving company in a transparent manner but those who do not care about public interests have demanded the cancellation of the decision. He accused these people of serving personal interests at the expense of the airport development project.
On the other hand, MP Mohammad Al-Huwaila submitted a proposal to oblige the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to present reports on the steps being taken to prevent further decline of oil prices in the global market to the National Assembly every six months. He said the report should include statistical figures, comparison tables and details on the actions taken to stop the oil price decline. He also recommended organization of awareness campaigns for the public to serve as individual supervisors over the market and to report unreasonable price hikes.
Furthermore, MP Khaleel Abdullah has forwarded a number of queries to Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh on the purported anomalies in the Public Authority for Handicapped Affairs (PAHA). He requested copies of the minutes of the authority's meetings, names of attendees, departments they represent, documents related to decisions taken in the past three fiscal years; indicating the same goes for the authority's board of directors.
He also asked about the organizational structure of the authority, information about employees from top to bottom with a little emphasis on supervisory positions and changes made within the work force in the past three fiscal years. Lastly, the MP requested for the record of all correspondence between the authority and Civil Service Commission (CSC) in the last three years for further investigation.
Moreover, MP Khalil Abdullah submitted queries to Minister of Education and Higher Education and Board Chairman of Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) Dr Bader Al-Essa on the alleged violations in the institute. The lawmaker said he decided to forward these questions in order to end the irregularities in KISR which were mentioned in the State Audit Bureau's report on the budget of the institute for fiscal 2013/2014.
He added the bureau called the attention of the institute on its failure to pay rent allowance to the staff since the end of Sept 2012, asserting this is a violation of the CSC's directive. He demanded for details on the rent allowance for KISR employees since the issuance of the decision on Sept 30, 2012 till date and list of beneficiaries who have not received the allowance from the time the decision took effect till date.
