500 jobs for Qataris soon

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Some 500 jobs are on offer in the private and other sectors for Qataris with different educational backgrounds but they must attend a rigorous six-month training programme and pass English language skill test to be able to grab those positions.

The training programme is to be conducted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs with help from private companies that are offering these jobs. The companies include not only banks but also those in the construction sector and the jobs include professions involving accountancy and even senior administrative positions.

Registration for the training programme is to be begin in a few days and the programme will be launched in October. This wouldn't be a one-off programme.

It is part of a series of employment-oriented training programmes the ministry plans to launch over the long-term as part of a National Initiative for Training Qatari Youth and has titled it as "Employ Me".

Three categories of trainees are to be registered: Those with secondary school certificates, graduates and post-graduates. But trainees must pass tests at the end of the programme to qualify to be employed.

Interestingly though, all trainees will be paid handsome stipend during their training that will be five days a week and eight hours a day.

A senior ministry official, who outlined details of the training programme in remarks to a local Arabic daily Al Arab published yesterday, though lamented that there is a dearth of suitable Qataris who could be employed in technical jobs in the insurance sector despite high demand.

Ali Mohamed Al Ahbabi, head of employment at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, told the daily that the companies taking part in the above initiative are those that are quite keen on Qatarisation.
