Saudi- Military officer jailed for joining Daesh


(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: The special criminal court has sentenced a former military official to nine years in jail for joining Daesh and traveling to Syria to fight.
A fine of SR5000 was also slapped on him and he was barred from traveling abroad for nine years after serving his term. He has also been convicted of disobeying the ruler by traveling to Syria through Turkey illegally to participate in the fighting going on there. The charges of his joining Daesh and his contacts with various militant organizations were also proved.
The charges against him of being trained in dismantling and assembling Kalashnikov rifles in the camps of militant organizations were also proved. He was also found guilty of participating in fighting under the leadership of Daesh.
He hid the fact that of one of his cousins who had been missing for some time actually left with him for Syria to participate in the fighting. He also showed disrespect to his passport by handing it over to two Daesh terrorists.
The convict was working in the military corps. He learned about the terrorist organizations including Daesh and proceeded to join them. This is despite the fact that he was a military official who had pledged to stay away from whatever harms the Kingdom and the ruler. He was supposed to remain in the country and serve it and follow general rules and implement all military orders and instructions.
