MRL Corporation (ASX:MRF) will look to identify commercial applications for graphite from its Sri Lankan projects after signing an agreement with Australian graphene company Intelligent Materials.

The University of Adelaide had achieved good results on the recovery of graphene from MRL’s high-grade graphite ore in Sri Lanka.

MRL is aiming to develop an underground mining operation to extract high-grade crystalline vein graphite with financing.

The signing of a heads of agreement between MRL and Intelligent Materials will provide access to a network of advanced manufacturing enterprises and scientific expertise not normally available to a junior mining company.

MRL carries a market cap. of $11.6 million.

MRL’s graphite projects in Sri Lanka are known for the high grade vein ore.

A key challenge in the generation of commercially valuable graphene is to produce consistent and replicable graphene to meet the requirements of industrial customers.

The agreement with Intelligent Materials could provide this ability given its experience in high volume market applications and understanding of solutions development processes.
