1,332 people killed in Iraq in July: UN report
(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) As many as 1,332 people were killed in violence across Iraq in July, according to a monthly report released on Saturday by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
Some 335 of the deaths were registered in capital Baghdad alone.
The death toll, the report noted, included 844 civilians and 488 Iraqi security personnel.
According to the same report, another 2,108 people €including both civilians and military personnel € were injured over the same period.
The figures represent an increase on the previous month, when 1,446 people were killed and 1,687 injured across the war-torn country, according to UNAMI.
Iraq has suffered a devastating security vacuum since June of last year, when the Daesh militant group overran the northern city of Mosul and declared a self-styled "caliphate" in parts of Iraq and Syria.
