(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Filipino Badminton Committee in Kuwait organised an action-packed one-day badminton tournament on Friday at the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club in Hawally. The tournament that was participated in by a huge number of badminton enthusiasts was divided into three levels, the Beginners, Novice and Intermediate.
It was a battle of agility and endurance as the shuttlecocks swooshed from one court to the other with the best players left standing till the end of the matches played. In the Intermediate Level, the unbeatable duo Mohammed Shameer and Naser Vayavalapil bagged the championship cup while the bombastic pair Melvin Bancud and Dennis Arenas trailed as first runners-up. In the Novice Level, Vee Sandig and Eric Torno emerged as champions while Jay Paranter and Robert Luage placed first runners-up.
Finally, in the Beginners Level, the mother and son tandem Divina Punzalan and Gerby Punzalan showed everyone what they've got as they dominated the badminton court beating the other players and capturing the first spot. On the other hand, Ali Kamal and Erlinda Lalong came in first runners-up. "We would like to thank all our dedicated FBC officers led by President Regine Panesal and all our members for the very successful oneday tournament," stated FBC Founder and Chairman Dr Chie Umandap.
Winners were awarded with medals, plaques and cash prizes. Umandap also announced the upcoming Ambassador Renato O Villa Championship Cup that will kick off on Aug 14 at the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club. The tournament in partnership with the Philippine Society of Marketing Specialists in Kuwait led by President Nelson Fernandez is open to the public with a lot of amazing prizes up for grabs.
