Saudi- Meat poultry top items seized for violations


(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: Meat and poultry topped the list of food items seized by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) at the border crossings for violating the health standards in the last two months.
Approximately 267137 kg of unfit meat and poultry were rejected according to figures provided by SFDA to local media. The authority rejected 198 imported food shipments weighing 851 tons and accounting for a total of 0.11 percent of the cleared cargo which was approximately 41882 loads weighing 772778 tons.
Vegetables and canned fruit came second on the list of violating food stuffs seized by the SFDA's inspectors with 253478 kg followed by fish and seafood 224476 kg rice 213667 kg. The other food items seized for violations were fresh fruits 15334 kg coffee and tea 144337 kg milk products 63198 kg whole grain 51834 kg beverages 50826 kg and processed meat 48595 kg.
