Qatar- UNCTAD urged to build growth visions on Doha heritage

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari stressed the importance of global change agendas as the essence of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) identity.

He said despite pressure, G77 + China remained united and cooperative with each other for their interests.

Dr Al Kuwari made the remarks as he addressed a UNCTAD meeting at the Unesco headquarters as part of preparations for the 14th session of UNCTAD.

He called on UNCTAD members to build development visions on Doha heritage, hoping that the 14th session in the Peruvian capital of Lima will be promising and have a positive outcome.

Dr Al Kuwari highlighted the importance of the meeting to reiterate the commitment of member states not only to the organisation but also to humanity.

He said developing countries have adopted a defensive strategy in the past 15 years as rapid changes and lack of stability in the global order led to suspicious feelings.

However, he said matters have started to calm down and UNCTAD members must set their goals clearly.

Dr Al Kuwari also visited Rome to take part in a conference for culture ministers of countries participating in Expo Milano 2015, at the invitation of the organising committee.

The Minister will address the conference today on the role of culture in achieving sustainable development, particularly as Expo Milano is being held under the theme 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life' with food shortage regarded as the major challenge facing world population.
