Oman exhibiting cultural heritage at Brazil event


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman in coordination with the Brazilian Embassy has launched the 'Omani Cultural Days in Brazil' in So Paulo. 

The event including exhibitions and presentations on Oman began on Monday and will run till August 2 in So Paulo and later in Rio de Janeiro from August 5-10. 

Led by H H Sayyid Fatik bin Fahr al Said secretary general of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture the event includes cultural and literary programmes which will be hosted by the National Library in So Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The event will also see exhibition of documents and manuscripts and an exhibition on tolerance.

'The goal of this event is to increase the knowledge of the Brazilian people about Oman. They [Brazilians] can see images of our country and understand its history. We want to present Oman in all aspects' said H E Khalid al Jaradi Oman's Ambassador in Braslia.

In the two cities the show will have exhibitions of photos religious documents art works manuscripts arts and crafts and fashion including henna sessions. Activities will also include live performances and shows on Omani folklore and music as well as display of traditional industries and crafts such as products made out of palm fronds silverware and calligraphy.

An exhibition on Omani hospitality will also be part of the programme which will include live shows on rituals and values that usually take place in the 'sablah or majlis'. The exhibition on tolerance will be supervised by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.

'There are a lot of similarities between Oman and Brazil. For instance the people of both countries are very friendly receive foreigners very well are tolerant and respect people' said H E Jaradi.

The diplomat believes that calligraphy and henna tattoos will be the main attractions for the visitors.

To organise the event Oman has sent a strong delegation of more than 40 people.

The Omani Cultural Days in Brazil is organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in collaboration with ministries such as Information Awqaf and Religious Affairs Tourism Foreign Affairs and the National Records and Archives Authority the Public Authority for Craft Industries the Public Authority for Radio and Television Sultan Qaboos University the Omani Society for Fine Arts and the Photographic Society of Oman.
