UAE- Indian mission seeks time to solve e Migrate issue

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The Indian Consulate in Dubai has officially sought time to solve the crisis in the recruitment of blue-collar Indian workers.

In a Press release issued on Thursday the Consulate announced that "the newly introduced e-Migrate system is facing some technical difficulties."

The mission acknowledged that the system launched to streamline and smoothen the process of recruitment of labour force from India is taking more time for processing the applications both in the UAE and in India.

"The Consulate-General of India therefore would inform all concerned that there could be some delay in accepting processing and final approval of the recruitment documents. All are requested to bear with us for the unfortunate delays in our services and we hope to get the technical defects resolved soon" the mission added.

The mission's statement follows a Khaleej Times report on Thursday that highlighted the e-Migrate system has backfired with glitches resulting in a major crisis in the recruitment of blue-collar Indian workers to the UAE.

Sources told this paper that not a single worker has come through the new system with individual visa.

"Only big companies that hire groups of workers through recruitment agencies in India have managed to recruit Indian labourers this month. Even housemaids' recruitment is not happening as individual employers also have to go through this system" said one source.

Officials said the mission has called in a meeting of HR heads of all big companies hiring Indian workers on Monday. "It is necessary to pacify the businesses as many employers are terribly upset with the huge delay leading to expiry of workers' visas. Many companies have already said they would stop hiring Indian workers and look for workers of other nationalities if the situation continues like this" said one official.
