Australian swimming team concludes training at Aspire

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Australia's national swimming squad has ended a 10-day training camp at Hamad Aquatic Centre in Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF).

The team comprised Olympic swimmers Grant Hackett, two-time winner of 1,500m freestyle event in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004); Cate Campbell, gold medal in 4x100m freestyle relay in London (2012) Summer Olympics and Emily Seebohm and others.

Over the last three years, Aspire Zone has hosted camps for three groups from the squad, in addition to regularly organising camps for top-tier athletes and sports clubs.

This was the first time the entire squad trained here as part of preparations for World Swimming Championships organised by International Swimming Federation in Kazan, Russia.

Championships started with diving, synchronised swimming and open water events, a day after the opening ceremony on July 24. Swimming events start on August 2.

Hussein Al Qahtani, Director, Corporate Communications, AZF, said, "We are delighted to host Australia's full squad and be part of their preparations for the 16th World Swimming Championships.

"Australia choosing Aspire Zone to train proves the success of smaller training camps we hosted in the past."

Australian Head Coach Jacco Verhaeren said, "Aspire Zone's excellent facilities gave us a comfortable environment to help put the finishing touches to our world championships campaign.

"The most distinguishing feature of Aspire is having in one place all facilities that match international standards.

"The training experience was unique and saved us a lot of time and effort."

By providing year-round indoor climate-controlled training facilities, Aspire aims to nurture elite sporting talent, allowing athletes to compete at their maximum potential.
