Oman- Advertisements by traditional healers in Ruwi cause of concern

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Traditional healers claiming to have remedies for a range of ailments are propagating their practice through handwritten advertisements in the heart of Ruwi listing their 'expertise'.

When contacted by Muscat Daily Asif one such traditional 'healer' from an Asian country claimed to have cure for most chronic ailments. The 'doctor' as he called himself said 'I use traditional way of healing. My medicines can get rid of diabetes in 45 days. Same is the case with blood pressure and other chronic diseases.'

Asif said he charges RO5 as 'registration' fee. 'Treatment charges depend on the kind of ailment' he added. 'This so-called expert has put up advertisements all over Ruwi soliciting patients. These advertisements are pasted in public places without MoH permission' said Shoban George a Ruwi resident.

In a media statement the Directorate General of Private Institutions in MoH has said it is prohibited to issue any public health advertisements without ministry's permission. Besides all public advertisements should bear MoH's number.

The ministry has laid down a set of norms to prevent misleading advertisements. Those flouting this rule can be jailed or fined.
