Oman- Hopes high as Microsoft releases Windows 10 today

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) With Microsoft all set to roll out the first release of Windows 10 its new operating system (OS) on Wednesday the software giant's fans in Oman are hoping it will live up to expectations.

IT expert Tariq Hilal al Barwani said that people have a lot of expectations from the new operating system as it will be the last Windows version from Microsoft.

'The good thing is that it promises to be a cross-platform system which will work for mobiles tablets and desktops. And unlike Windows 7 and 8 Windows 10 brings with it the feature of being eco-friendly which is sure to gain a lot of favour with people. The system is also expected to be a hit especially since it's free. But the real test of its stability will be when corporations and governments also start using it.'

Among the important features of the new OS is that the company is offering free upgrade for Windows 7 8 and 8.1 users who have registered for the system. Abhilash Kumar a Muscat-based engineer said the most exciting feature of the new version is that it will require lesser storage space than its previous iterations.

'The new operating system comes with a compression technology which will help save space. The promise of a substantial revamp of its recovery image is also a plus as it could save between 4GB and 12GB of space' Kumar said. Mohammad Kaleem a computer dealer in Ruwi said 'Most of the features promised are excellent and the search option will be more compact. An interesting feature is that Windows 10 will also be coming with a separate app store. Kaleem however hopes that the operating system will not be a disaster like Windows 8.

'A lot of my customers who had PCs with Windows 8 wanted it uninstalled. They would ask me to replace it with Windows 7 instead because of a number of issues. I hope Microsoft has looked into these issues carefully as I think that alignment and workstation for Windows 10 is somewhat similar to Windows 8 which at times can cause confusion among users.'

Windows 10 is likely to cost RO25 for home edition while the professional one will be priced around RO50 he added. Meanwhile a statement on the Microsoft website said that Windows insiders will be the first to receive Windows 10.

They have also been invited to join in fan celebrations across 13 cities around the world including Sydney Tokyo Singapore Beijing New Delhi Dubai Nairobi Berlin Johannesburg Madrid London So Paulo and New York City. The new operating system will reach the Gulf (except Dubai) only in September.
