Saudi- Ministry of Agriculture sets shrimp fishing dates


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The Ministry of Agriculture, represented by the Ministry's Department for Fisheries, has set shrimp fishing season for the year 1436/1437 in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, as follows :

First : The shrimp fishing season in the Arabian Gulf starts on 16/10/1436 H corresponding to 01/08/2015 AD, and ends on 21/04/1437 H corresponding to 31/01/2016 AD.

Second : The shrimp fishing season in the Red Sea begins on 17/11/1436 H corresponding to 01/09/2015 AD, and ends on 22/06/1437 H corresponding to 31/03/2016 AD.

The ministry called on fishermen to abide by the regulations and instructions issued in this regard and use regular fishing means which contribute to the development of this stock sustainably in the interest of the fishermen due to an abundance of shrimps and not to worsen them in the commercial fishing areas, stressing the need to implement these regulations and instructions, indicating that violators will be subject to penalties.

The total catch in the Arabian Gulf for the year 2014 amounted to (10254) tons by (646) boats in Qatif and Jubail; while the total in the Red Sea - Jazan region (982) tons by (133) boats, and fish farms production from shrimps reached approximately (12980) tons for the year 2014 AD.
