Saudi jailed for fighting in Syria


(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: The Special Criminal Court has issued a preliminary order in a case related to a Saudi national who fought with militant organizations in Syria. The court functioning at its summer headquarters in Jeddah sentenced him to a seven-year jail term and barred him from traveling.
The Saudi national is charged with traveling to Syria associating with militant organizations participating with them in fighting in Syria without permission from his legal guardian receiving training in various types of arms and coordinating with some people for traveling to participate in fighting and doing all these in complete secrecy.
The Saudi also is accused of transferring $15000 using part of it to support the fighters as was confessed by him spreading prejudiced messages on twitter including terming the rules as tyrannical and lauding Daesh.
The seven-year jail term commences from the date he was detained. It also includes a term of two years and six months according to article six of the anti-money laundering regulations. He has been barred from traveling until he served the jail term.
The defendant is believed to have decided to challenge the order and go in appeal against the preliminary judgment.
