What Are Ingrown Hairs/Entrapped Hairs and How are they Caused?

Ingrown hairs [more appropriately referred to as entrapped hairs] result when existing shaving bumps [caused by shaving] block the opening of the hair follicles on the skin forcing the normally growing hairs to grow into around or underneath the existing bumps [blocking the hair follicles] as they try to find a way to exit [hence the name ‘ingrown hairs’].

Shaving Bumps precede ingrown hairs and as such ingrown hairs are Not the cause of shaving bumps.

BREEJ Technologies disagrees with the widely held and published view that “ingrown hairs” are caused by wiry curly hairs that curl and grow back into the skin”. This concept of “ingrown hairs” has led to a lot of poking & probing of the shaved area with tweezers often further aggravating the problem. BREEJ discourages this practice of pulling out/freeing ingrown hairs with tweezers as the additional trauma can lead to infection hyper pigmentation and significant skin damage.

“It is practically impossible [based on the structure of the Stratum Corneum] for the hair outside the skin [or hair cut at an angle] to curl and grow back into the skin contrary to what is claimed and published by many!” according to Dr. Anaebonam Chief Scientist of BREEJ Technologies

BREEJ postulates that “Shaving Bumps are Primarily caused by Trauma from Shaving resulting in inflammation of the shaved area manifested as “bumps” as the body reacts to the trauma compounded at times by Bacterial/Fungal Infections. Induction of Melanogenesis by Irritated keratinocytes during shaving produces additional inflammatory mediators further exacerbating the condition [this is the main reason why men of color with higher levels of melanin have a higher incidence of shaving bumps].

Best Way To Get Rid Of Ingrown Hairs/Entrapped Hairs

Since Shaving Bumps [caused by shaving] block the opening of the hair follicles on the skin forcing the normally growing hairs to grow into the existing bumps [hence Ingrown hairs] the best way to get rid of ingrown hairs is to resolve the Existing Shaving Bumps. Once the Shaving Bumps are resolved the Ingrown Hairs/Entrapped Hairs are freed and can easily be shaved off

The Existing Shaving Bumps are best resolved using an Effective Anti-Bump Product formulated with anti inflammatories anti bacterials anti fungals and skin conditioners

It is very important to quickly resolve the Shaving Bumps as the condition will get worse if untreated and could lead to formation of Keloids in Keliod-prone individuals
