GU-Q students attend US national forum

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Five female students from Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) attended the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders at University of Maryland, College Park.

The forum, a premier US event for college women, has been helping them learn, grow, and empower each other to further leadership skills for 30 years.

It provides a transformative experience for participants and prepares them to be the next generation of leaders.

To shortlist students to gain the most at the forum and return to the campus and community to take action, GU-Q Office of Student Development selected the candidates through an essay competition for female students interested in becoming leaders. Out of 13, five were selected.

"Our five students stood out because they talked about women's empowerment in their culture and how they want women to have a bigger voice in their communities," said Candice T Render, Learning and Disabilities Specialist, GU-Q and the students' chaperone to the event.

"We ended up with a group of smart young women who were so excited about attending the event and had set out goals in terms of future achievements and impact they plan to make within their own communities."

Attracting students from all walks of life, the conference featured over 50 workshops, eight speakers and opportunities to gain experience for more than 1,000 participants.
