It is time to open a new page in the region: Iranian FM

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) All countries must cooperate with each other in the fight against extremism, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said on Monday.

At a joint press conference in Baghdad with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Zarif said: "[It is] time to open a new page that takes into account the interests of all".

He also said that countries in the region shared a common history and a common religion.

Zarif arrived in Baghdad Monday after a tour of Gulf States, including Kuwait and Qatar as part of Tehran's efforts to reassure countries in the region about its nuclear program and its historic nuclear accord with Western powers.

The Iranian foreign minister also said that his country had no dispute with other states in the region. "We can have differences on the developments in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, but we are ready to cooperate with everyone," he said.

For his part, al-Jaafari said that "[the region is entering] a new era after fears over Tehran's nuclear program have been resolved".

Regarding Turkey's airstrikes on Daesh targets, al-Jaafari said: "Security is indivisible. Daesh threatens all states, and no one is immune". He also urged all countries to cooperate with each other to defeat the militant group.

"We support any measure averting the threat against Iraq and Turkey," the Iraqi foreign minister said

Zarif will also meet Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 group of nations signed a final nuclear agreement in Vienna. The deal calls for an end to longstanding international sanctions on the Islamic republic of Iran in return for curbs on and inspections of its nuclear energy program.
