(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait's pending traffic congestion will be solved by 2018, the Ministry of Public Works Undersecretary Awatif Al-Ghneim speculated on Monday.
She added, on the fringes of an annual conference for public roads, that many highways and bridges projects are undergoing and they will relieve traffic flow once they are completed by the next few years. On his part, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry's roads engineering department Ahmad Al-Hassan pointed out that these undergoing projects are taking into consideration the country's growing population and its urban expansion.
He also added that the Ministry is working side by side with other concerned government bodies to make the completion of these projects as convenient as possible for both contracting companies and the public. Meanwhile, in a series of surprise security campaigns conducted across the six governorates from July 19-25, officers from the General Traffic Department issued 39,622 traffic citations, impounded 2,165 vehicles, and detained 30 motorists for various traffic offenses. An Interior Ministry press release said the department has deported some 13 expatriates who were caught driving without license.
It confirmed the security campaign will continue in an unspecified period to sustain public security and to ensure that motorists abide by the traffic rules and regulations to put an end to traffic violations. In another development, General Traffic Department in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works Monday announced that Ardiya East Road (602) Intersection on the Sixth Ring Road will be closed for six hours from midnight as of Tuesday July 28th for one week.
An Interior Ministry press release added the same procedure will be followed on the street leading to Farwaniya Hospital off Road 602. It noted the traffic will be redirected to the sub-road linking Sixth Ring Road toward Jahra while leaving the hospital, and toward Messila while heading for the hospital.
