WORLD T20 QUALIFIERS

Its opponent is not yet decided. It could either be Namibia or The Netherlands. But Oman has its task cut out. It must win its July 23 playoff in Dublin

Republic of Ireland to book a berth in the World Twenty20 to be played in India 2016.

Following its fourth-place finish in Group B of the World T20 Qualifiers Oman will take on the loser of the Netherlands-Namibia match in its must-win playoff.

A defeat will end Oman's World T20 hopes. A win will see it finish among the top six in the qualifiers meaning it will straightaway enter the big event for the first time ever.

A win against Namibia or The Netherlands will also place Oman in the fifth-place encounter of the qualifying meet. The result of that game will have no effect on the sultanate team's World T20 qualification.

Oman coach Duleep Mendis and his men know there's a must-win challenge at hand and will be aware that a loss on July 23 will dash the team's hopes of making it to the World T20.

'We are well aware that a do-or-die game is coming up. We must win it otherwise we will go out' Madhu Jesrani Oman Cricket's secretary told Muscat Daily over phone from Dublin on Monday. 'The players and the team management are upbeat about the challenge ahead. The team is going through a long practice session today. We are confident of a positive outcome.'

After losing its opening qualifier to Kenya Oman had a dream run in the competition defeating Canada The Netherlands and Afghanistan. After a washout against UAE Oman lost its concluding Group B game to Scotland to finish fourth and enter a must-win playoff.
