Saudi- Medical faculty seat controversy probed

(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: The circumstances leading to the death of a Saudi woman teacher on the University of Tabuk campus recently has sparked off debate and an official inquiry into the incident.
According to local media the teacher died of shock when her daughter was denied a medical seat at the university.
Details of the incident emerged from a conversation between the university registrar and the teacher that was recorded on WhatsApp during Ramadan.
In the recorded conversation the dean is promising to solve the admission problem as there is no seat available.
'In the event of withdrawal of an admitted student your daughter will be given priority' said the dean as per the recording.

Distressed by the development the teacher collapsed said the media report quoting sources adding that the student's name had appeared on the university's online portal.
Education Minister Azzam Al-Dakhil has issued a directive to form a committee to investigate the case and find out about the changes on the online portal said ministry spokesman Mubarak Al-Osaimi.
The committee will also investigate why the student was denied a medical seat despite scoring well in high school and in the assessment tests.
The teacher's husband and girl's father had sought a probe into the denial of seat.
The man thanked a university in Riyadh for offering a medical seat to his daughter but apologized for being forced to reject it due to circumstances preventing him from residing in Riyadh.
Meanwhile Omar Al-Shareef general director of education in Tabuk along with other officials visited the home of the teacher to offer condolences to her family.
