Saudi- The flight of common sense

(MENAFN- Arab News) The flight landed smoothly and the captain asked everyone to please remain seated till the plane came to halt. Naturally half a dozen single digit IQ types took that as the cue to get up and open the overhead bins. A heavy bag dislodged during the flight tumbled out and hit an unsuspecting male passenger on his shoulder dislocating it. Now it is not really the fault of the airliner but technically they are responsible. Their promise to you is to fly you from Point A to Point B. Failure to do so in comfort and security is their problem.
In a perfect world idiot passengers would be banned from flying and given a global no fly certificate if they stood when the plane was rolling.
Since a t no stage was it intimated to him that his shoulder might be dislocated he could sue the airline. What the airline would have done as a PR exercise is pay his hospital bills fly at least one close relative to look after him through convalescence and then fly him to his destination even volunteering a compensation for time and opportunity lost. Anything reasonable that avoids going to court.
Why are passengers dangerous? There is this defence mechanism that calls for challenging orders. It manifests itself as a compensation for fear and the sense of powerlessness on an aircraft.
You want to buck the odds. After all calamity always visits someone else not you. So you do silly risky things. Share some crazy moments. One passenger pushed an airhostess off the doorway of an Airbus in his hurry to get off the plane even before the safety flanks on the stairway had been positioned. She will never walk again. Now logic defies the haste perceive when a plane lands.
People rush off an aircraft then wait an hour for luggage and immigration and customs but they cannot wait 30 seconds to get out of the aircraft even shoving women and children and striking people with their hand-bags as they try to get pole position while the door is being opened.
Several years ago another passenger on a short hop flight to his home town dropped cigarette ash onto a packet of illegally smuggled fireworks he had managed to get past security. They ignited and there was this thrilling display at 19000 feet. In another incident a passenger brought with him a kerosene stove that was primed and under pressure changes it and exploded in mid-air hurting those sitting near him.
Ask yourself. Have you ever stopped someone from standing up when a flight is roll-ing? Why bother? You should. You could be the casualty. Crew are authorized to take action against the rowdy elements who become unmanageable or quarrelsome. In one case a passenger was tied up by the crew after he became roaring drunk and aggressive. The worst are conventioners sports teams and sailors.
Contrary to popular opinion laborers do not get drunk and misbehave.
Bravado is another danger. The human body converts into a missile if it is not strapped down during turbulence. People who think it is "sissy" stuff to fasten seat-belts are a danger to you. In one recorded case a passenger was flung across the cabin when the aircraft hit bad weather and fell 800 feet. A stewardess hit him in mid-air. She broke her leg and he cracked his ribs. In another incident two people died near Grand Cayman Island when they went up and hit the ceiling breaking their necks in the process. Only a cretin would avoid keeping belt fastened and it should seriously be considered that seat belts be provided in the toilet also. You see a co-passenger blocking the exit with clumps of luggage don't be nice and accommodate him.
In case of an emergency those clumps could be the cause of your becoming a casualty. But do make sure that you are not a contributor to the risk factor. For a start do not push and shove when your flight is called or monopolize the aisles while others are coming in or fill up the floor space with hand baggage. Make sure you carry nothing on you that is inflammable or liable to explode. Maintain a code of conduct. Do not cram heavy material in the overhead bins. That is the most dangerous thing to do. And when the plane lands keep in your seat. You will be surprised how many people have been injured by just this one indiscretion.
