US- Fiat Chrysler recalls 1.4M vehicles to prevent hacking

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced Friday it was recalling 1.4 million vehicles in response to a demonstration earlier this week that exposed vulnerabilities to computer hackers.

The world's seventh-largest automaker said action was to prevent any attempts to hack the software in the infotainment systems in its cars and trucks, according to company statement.

Among the recalled vehicles are the 2015 Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Dodge Challenger and Viper models.

The software systems in all of the recalled automobiles will be updated to make them more secure.

The recall was prompted after a magazine published an article early this week in which two hackers were able to remotely control the transmission, radio, climate control and other systems inside a Jeep Cherokee.
