Kuwait Keen On Protecting Rights Of Foreign Laborers

Date:

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Acting Director General of Public Authority for Manpower Ahmad Al-Mousa on Saturday underlined that Kuwait is eager to safeguard foreign laborers' rights. In statements to reporters, Al- Mousa said the authority has established a world-class integrated foreign laborers' sheltering center. He pointed out that the center, which accommodates up to 5,000 laborers, is meant to host foreign workers who have problems with their employers or sponsors until their disputes are settled or their financial and legal rights are fulfilled before they leave the country.

A plethora of social workers, psychiatrists, and lawers are working in the center to take care of the hosted foreign laborers, he clarified. Al-Mousa stated that several human rights organizations have visited the center and expressed admiration for it and for Kuwait's efforts to help and care for foreign laborers.
Meanwhile, the official unveiled that the authority is planning to introduce a new mechanism for contracting with foreign laborers whether in Kuwait or in their home countries to ensure that only highly-skilled and well-qualified would enter the Kuwait labor market. The new mechanism would include setting up special centers for advance-testing of job candidates theoretically and practically, he added.
