Fiat Chrysler recalls 1.4m units in US on hacking incidents

(MENAFN) Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said it is recalling 1.4 million cars and trucks in the US after hackers demonstrated that they could control their systems while in operation, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The recall follows a test by cybersecurity experts at Fiat who commandeered a Jeep Cherokee, made by Chrysler, to demonstrate the vulnerability of the vehicle's electronic systems.

The recall includes Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Chrysler cars and trucks manufactured between 2013 and 2015 that have radios vulnerable to hacking. Customers will receive USB device to update the software.

"The recall aligns with an ongoing software distribution that insulates connected vehicles from remote manipulation, which, if unauthorized, constitutes criminal action," FCA US said.
