Jordan- ARC begins recovery after infrastructure upgrade

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Aqaba Railway Corporation (ARC) has raised productivity after undergoing an infrastructure upgrade that would offset its deficit, sustain work and raise revenues this year and the next, owing the improvement to a Gulf Arab grant and governmental directives, according to a top corporation official.

ARC Deputy Director General Mahdi Abu Darwish said his institution began recovery from a fluctuation in phosphate transport to the Aqaba Port over the past two years, adding that a JD9 million grant from Gulf Arab states to shore up the corporation had largely helped to develop its infrastructure and raise its technical and technological capacity.

He said revenues had jumped 50 per cent in the last four months that raised the movement of phosphate trains, which currently run at the rate of four per day, noting that the government had intervened in favour of the corporation and its workers and "to ensure that transport is perpetuated within the amounts that guarantee enough revenues".
