Qatar- Al Furjan to cover five areas in third phase

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The third phase of the Al Furjan market project is to be implemented in places outside Doha, according to the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning.

In its third and final phase, the project will open shops in Al Shamal, Al Juweiliya, Semaisima, Um Salal and Al Wakrah, among others, an Arabic daily reports.

As part of the project, small shopping centres are set up with laundries, barber shops, bakeries, restaurants, pharmacies, meat and tailoring outlets, among others.

Al Furjan (neighbourhood in Arabic) was launched last year to help residents in remote areas to access shops locally so they don't have to come all the way to Doha.

The first two phases are over and work on the third continues.

In the first phase, 12 centres with 122 shops and in the second phase 176 shops at 18 centres were built.

In three phases, there will be centres in 44 places spread across geographical zones. The total number of shops in all 44 centres will be 645 - one centre on average will have 15 shops.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in collaboration with Qatar Development Bank, the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and Qatar Chamber. Also commercial streets are being built in connection with the shops.

In the third phase of the project, streets will be connected to main roads in Al Shamal, Al Juweiliya, Semaisima, Um Salal and Al Wakrah.

In the first phase of the project, four centres each were opened in Al Thumama, Al Merab, Ain Khalid and Al Ebb, six in Raudat Qadeem, seven in Al Laqtifia, three each in Hazmul Markhiya and Jariyan Najeema and nine in Raudat Al Hammam.

Each centre also has ATMs, post office, e-Kiosks to make payments for services and a taxi stand.
