Jordan FM meets Syrian opposition team


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh met here Thursday a visiting delegation of the follow-up committee for the Syrian opposition's second Cairo meeting, and the latest Syrian situation.

During the meeting, they discussed the committee's efforts and activities to put resolutions of the Cairo conference in place, and ways to unify Syrian opposition views so as to find a political solution in line with Geneva Conference I on Syria, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Jordanian foreign minister reiterated Jordan's stance that calls for a political solution to the Syrian crisis that could end bloodshed and violence and preserve Syria's unity and territorial integrity, it said.

Judeh hoped that the Syrian crisis would be resolved as soon as possible so that Syrians could return to their homeland, stressing the political solution as the gateway to a humanitarian solution, according to the statement.

It quoted members of the Syrian opposition delegation as appreciating Jordan's efforts to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis, while lauding Jordan for hosting Syrian refugees.

Jordan hosts around 1.5 million Syrian refugees. (end) ab.mt
