Iraqi parliament speaker, US Secretary of Defense discuss war on ISIL


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri discussed Thursday with visiting US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter efforts of the international coalition in the war on the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The two sides focused on the latest developments in the situation in Iraq and the region, said al-Jabouri's office in a press statement, adding they discussed in detail the progress of the ongoing military operations in Al-Anbar governorate.

They also dealt with the efforts being exerted by the United Stated in the field of arming and rehabilitation of the sons of the tribes, it added.

Al-Jabouri underlined the importance of enhancing mutual cooperation in combating ISIL militants and maintaining security in the liberated areas, the statement said.

He also stressed the need to boost security cooperation between the two countries especially in the areas of training and arming, it noted. (Pick up previous)
