Power outage on King Fahd Causeway stalls traffic

(MENAFN- Arab News) ALKHOBAR: The King Fahd Causeway that links Saudi Arabia with Bahrain was heavily crowded due to power outages on Monday evening. Traffic stopped completely in all lanes until power was restored.
An official source said that crowding on the Causeway was due to heightened security but justified the measures due to the unstable political and security situation in the region.
The source said that the increase in the number of customs and passport checkpoints did not solve the problem definitively and he called for replacing the two checkpoints with one.
On reasons for traveling to Bahrain during Eid Abdul Aziz Al-Asmari a regular visitor attributed the high number of visitors to the high quality and diversity of family holiday programs in Manama. These include theaters cinemas and concerts and he pointed out that Bahrain had become the main destination for Eid holidays thanks to its proximity to the Eastern Province.
The King Fahd Causeway Authority (KFCA) announced prior to Eid that preparations to cope with the increased number of travelers during the holiday include the implementation of development plans in traffic lanes and checkpoints to ensure the smooth flow of travelers without delay.
Abdul Rahman Al-Yahya KFCA acting director general said: 'There is continuous cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain to provide streamlined methods and high quality services for the holiday.'
He added that 50000 passengers were expected to use the Causeway linking Saudi Arabia and Bahrain every day.
