U.N. Condemns Bombing in Northern Afghanistan

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) on Wednesday condemned the bombing that killed at least 19 civilians and injured at least another 28 in the Almar district of Faryab province.

'This horrific attack against civilians in a market demonstrates an appalling disregard for human life,' said Nicholas Haysom, the top U.N. official in Afghanistan. 'UNAMA has repeatedly called for an immediate ban on weapons which kill indiscriminately and that are used in civilian-populated areas.'

According to media reports, a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives in a crowded marketplace in northern Afghanistan.
