Kuwait- Isidro And Ragma Clinch FAST 'Z Scenario' Crowns

(MENAFN- Arab Times) After the long holidays, the Filipino Action Shooting Team (FAST) is back for another fun shootout competition. FAST VP Cesar Isidro brought the house down with his moves, adding another title under his wings. Sr. Chief Instructor Eric Ragma showed his best shooting form ever to bag the crown for the Professional Category.

It was a classic showdown of accuracy and speed for all participants as they tried to display both their excellent balance of speed and accuracy in order to finish on top, but only VP Cesar Isidro managed to clinch the crown for the Standard Category while Eric Ragma, one of the most admired shooters in the range, stamped his authority in the Professional Category.

These weekly fun shoots would not have been a success without the commitment of Filipino Action Shooting Team (FAST) officers and members under the guidance of Range Officer Wilbert Zingapan to ensure the safety of all participants and with the support of Gen. Ahmed Al Saleem.

The "FAST - Z Scenario" was another brilliant design of FAST President Ronil Paul Garcia that was set-up with the help of FAST (Acting) Secretary Archie Cajucom who just came from his annual leave. He came early to ensure that the course of fire will be as challenging as always, for the participants to have fun.

At the start of the fun shoot, FAST Pres Ronil Garcia stressed to all competitors that safety is the priority of both the range and the organization.

The scenario was created wherein the charge line was drawn on the ground in "Z" shape, hence, the name "FAST - Z". At the start of the course, the competitors were required to have the gun in condition 2, with one magazine in the pistol, the spare magazine in the mag pouch. The starting position placed the shooter at the end of the letter "Z" facing the wall, with both hands holding a small fence.

Since the course of fire was set to be conducted in free style and the gunmen were required to engage the targets when these were visible, the gunslingers had to choose either shooting all targets that are visible on the starting line or they can engage them by going through the charge "Z" line drawn on the floor depending on their game plan.

Upon an audible signal, the gunslingers racked their weapons and initially engaged the first target at 3 meters slightly covered at the end of the "Z" line. The rest of the targets were laid down on the range with a distance of 5-10 meters depending on where the shooter stands and chooses to shoot the targets. It looked simple but the targets are covered by barricades and the shooters may skip one or two targets because the way they are lined up is tricky. The "Z" charge line is designed in such a way that the shooters can only engage the targets while they are inside, although stepping on the line is permissible but stepping out will result in a procedural error - deduction of ten points.

An aggregate scoring method is used to calculate the final score for each competitor with a bullet in Alpha earning 5 points, while in Bravo and Charlie brought 3 points and Delta 1 point. The time taken to complete the shoot plays a major part in the standing as the total score is divided by the time taken over the course to get the result. Although the course seemed easy as several shooters went home with a perfect shoot, some shooters found themselves with a lot of penalties due to missed shots or procedural error that resulted in deduction of 10 points for each violation. The shooter can also be disqualified if he violates the gun safety handling rules. The shooter can opt for another run or more but as a rule, only the first attempt of the competition will be considered final.

Standard Category

FAST VP Cesar Isidro topped the Standard Category by going over the course with 29.15 seconds. He collected 16 Alpha - the highest for the same category, and 4 Charlie that provided him with a perfect shoot; thereby, putting him on top with a hit factor of 3.1561. With this win, he is most likely to move up to the next category and join the best of the best.

FAST (Acting) Secretary Archie Cajucom was back in action and proved that he did not lose his skills even if he just came from a long annual leave. Without any question, Cajucom gave his best with 0.1305 point difference from the 1st placer. He proved his worth when he got 11 Alpha, 7 Charlie and 2 Delta that gave him 3.0256 hit factor and finished the course with 25.78 seconds - the fastest time in the same category in which he placed second.

Completing the "Tough Three" was no other than Muath Ahmad Al Qattan who had trouble in looking for the targets as he skipped two targets and he had to return so he took longer time to complete the course. He finished with 36.42 seconds and collected 16 Alpha, 3 Charlie and 1 Delta for a 2.4712 hit factor.

Jojo Arciaga, another shooter who missed several actions was back in the range, captured the 4th position. He suffered several mag loading problems and a double feed, finishing the course in 52.32 seconds. He collected 10 Alpha, 8 Charlie, 1 Delta and 1 Mike for 1.2424 hit factor.

Since only 4 shooters competed in the Standard Category, there were no Magical Five and Magnificent Seven line-up. Nevertheless, new shooters joined the competition and showed this is not just a sport for men but for ladies as well.

Ms Vanda Cadag, who recently engaged in Precision Shooting joined the group and showed how women can compete with men by finishing the course in 72.67 seconds. She collected 16 Alpha, 1 Charlie, 2 Delta and 1 Mike for 1.0321 hit factor.

Another lady shooter, Ms Lilia Capuro continues to love this sport and finished the course in 155.76 seconds with 11 Alpha, 3 Charlie, 4 Delta, 2 Mike and 0.3082 hit factor.

Last but not the least, Ms BJ Jamiro completed the course in 102.89 seconds. She collected 8 Alpha and 6 Charlie but 6 of her bullets landed on Mike which gave her a negative score.

Professional Category

In the Professional Category, Sr Chief Instructor Eric Ragma showed that he is really one of the best shooters in the league as he performed with precision, excellent movement and speed. He brought everyone's hands down as he completed the course in 19.84 seconds. He recorded the fastest time in the same category and collected the highest Alpha with 15 and 5 Charlie for a hit factor of 4.5363. He is the only shooter who crossed the 4.0 hit factor mark.

Pres Ronil Garcia was once again a victim of his own game plan as he sacrificed his accuracy over speed but it was not enough to beat Ragma's time. Garcia completed the course in 21.37 seconds and collected 8 Alpha, 9 Charlie and 3 Delta for 3.2756 hit factor.

Mohammed Al Sadoon grabbed 3rd place. Due to 1 Mike, he completed the course in 24.80 seconds and collected 12 Alpha, 6 Charlie and 1 Delta with a hit factor of 2.7823. Giving himself another chance, he improved his number of hits as he collected 14 Alpha, 5 Charlie and 1 Delta for a perfect shoot with a 3.4580 hit factor. Unfortunately, only the first attempt is considered for the weekly competition.

Fahad Al Sarheed settled for 4th place as he encountered a gun jam and miss feed that gave him a longer time to finish the course in 29.48 seconds. He collected 8 Alpha, 11 Charlie and 1 Delta for a 2.5102 hit factor. Unsatisfied with his first attempt, he took another run which improved his number of hits as he collected 11 Alpha, 6 Charlie and 3 Delta for 2.4104 hit factor under 31.53 seconds.

Daniel Marjanovic settled for 5th place as he missed two hits and collected 13 Alpha, 4 Charlie and 1 Delta under 43.49 seconds that gave him a1.3336 hit factor. His 2nd attempt was almost the same as his first but he missed only once this time and collected 8 Alpha, 9 Charlie and 2 Delta for 1.3391 hit factor under 44.06 seconds.

FAST officials announced that all newcomers and members wishing to participate in the weekly shoots should come to the range ahead of time for a "dry run" over the course. The aim of this dry run is to ensure the newcomers' safety as well as that of all those present at the range. The newcomers who fail to turn up for this dry run will not be allowed to take part in the actual competition.

On the other hand, FAST officials would like to invite everyone on Tuesday evenings to the weekly fun shoot competitions at 18:00 hours.
