Saudi- A nation on the move

(MENAFN- Arab News) This came as a bit of a surprise that one-third of all teachers at Saudi colleges are still foreigners. ('30% of university teachers are expats' July 21)

This is despite an intensive Saudization campaign to restrict academics from other countries.

The world is getting smaller. And a nation's progress hinges on the creativity and technological innovation. The history of developed nations would tell us that they always needed best minds from outside not just to contribute to their academic prowess but also to continue with an urge to develop a national pool of talents from within to remain at the forefront in these times of cutting edge global competition.

I find the Kingdom's role in shaping a foreign policy impeccable its drive for diversification in economy precisely meaningful and its humanitarian concerns and a campaign for peace inherently Islamic.

Yet KSA's somewhat reluctance to open doors for outsiders is beyond comprehension despite the fact that the country has opened some world-class educational institutions like King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and has several such projects including new cities in the pipeline.

The aim at the core definitely should be to train the Saudi youths and open wider vistas for the Saudi academicians including the Ph.D. scholars both men and women. Imran Hashmi Riyadh
