(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Sheikh Saeed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Pilot Staff-Brigadier Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National and Reserve Service Authority, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Surour Al Nahyan on Monday attended a reception to mark the mass wedding of 44 couples from Al Rawashid tribe.

The 18th wedding held by the tribe was sponsored and supported by the Marriage Fund and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, and was attended by a number of members of the Federal National Council and tribal dignitaries.

Head of the organising committee of the mass wedding, Salim bin Dhaen Al Rashidi, said mass weddings have become a social and national tradition. "We remove hurdles for the youth, encourage them to marry and provide full support to them," he added.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rakkadh Al Ameri said the tradition reflects the wise leaders' interest in ensuring family stability.

Representative of the Marriage Fund, Rashid Obaid Al Kashif, said mass weddings proved successful in the Emirati society and helped reduce lavish spending on weddings.
