Oman needs to beat Namibia for a historic spot in World T20

On Tuesday The Netherlands beat Namibia by four wickets at Dublin Ireland in a qualifying playoff to seal its direct berth for India It joined Scotland Ireland and Hong Kong as the teams that  have confirmed their places so far in the World Cup.

A win for Oman coached by former Sri Lankan Test star Duleep Mendis will see it finish among the top six teams in the qualifiers and book its place in the mega event while a defeat against Namibia will end its World T20 hopes. 

A win on Thursday will also place Oman in the fifth-place encounter of the qualifiers. The result of that game will however have no effect on Oman's World T20 qualification.

Also on Tuesday Hong Kong recorded a dramatic five-wicket win over Afghanistan to book its second straight trip to the World Twenty20. Afghanistan must now beat Papua New Guinea in an elimination match on Thursday to make it to the worlds.

Brief scores: Afghanistan 161-7 in 20 overs lost to Hong Kong 162-5 in 20 overs; Namibia 135-6 in 20 overs lost to The Netherlands 137-6 in 19.2 overs.

Eden Gardens to host World T20 final

Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the final of next year's World Twenty20 on April 3. India is hosting the sixth edition from March 11.

The other venues are New Delhi Mumbai Mohali Chennai Bengaluru Dharamsala and Nagpur the BCCI said on Tuesday.
