Qatar rejects 'false' media reports

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar's Government Communications Office yesterday described media reports linking the suspect of the recent tragedy in Tennessee to the state as "false".

"We are aware of reports linking the suspect of the recent tragedy in Tennessee to the State of Qatar," the Government Communications Office said.

"The individual known as Mohamod Youssuf Abdulazeez transited through Doha's Hamad International Airport from Amman, Jordan, to the US in November 2014. At no time did Abdulazeez enter the State of Qatar. Statements suggesting Abdulazeez entered the State of Qatar are false," it said.

"The State of Qatar condemns these criminal acts such as those in Tennessee, which terrorise and kill innocent people.

"These acts are contrary to all humanitarian values, ethics, principles and religions and emphasise the need for unity and solidarity in order to renounce violence and reject terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, whatever its motives and causes," it added.

"Qatar wishes to express its sincere condolences to the US government, its people and to the families of the victims of this heinous crime," the office said in a statement.

Abdulazeez, a Kuwaiti-born naturalised US citizen, was killed in a gunfight
with police last Thursday after he sprayed gunfire at a military recruiting
centre in Chattanooga, then drove to a nearby Naval Reserve Centre where he shot and killed four Marines. Three people were wounded, including a sailor who died on Saturday.
