Exploded SpaceX caused by broken steel strut

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) A broken steel strut caused a SpaceX rocket bound for the International Space Station to explode after blast off last
month, dpa cited chief executive Elon Musk as saying Monday.

'It's not something that should ever have failed. It appeared to have
been incorrectly made,' Musk said in a teleconference.

The Dragon spacecraft was due to make a supply delivery to the space
station when it exploded June 28.

The 60-centimetre-long, 3-centimetre-wide strut held a helium
container that appears to have broken lose and exploded, dooming the
rocket, an initial investigation found.

SpaceX will test each individual strut in the future, Musk said.

The next launch of a Dragon craft to the ISS will likely be delayed
to at least September as a result of the accident, he said.
