Suicide Bombing Kills Eight in Nigeria


(MENAFN- QNA) Three policemen and five militants were killed by a car suicide bomb at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Damaturu, capital of Yobe state in northern Nigeria, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

The checkpoint is on a highway that connects the city with Borno state capital Maiduguri.

Police spokesman said that three of the people killed were policemen and the remainder were militants, adding that police had intercepted two cars loaded with explosives and then the SUV blew up.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in the United States and met with President Barack Obama Monday. While in the U.S. he will be discussing increased U.S. military assistance to quash the insurgency.
