(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) At least 10 Afghan soldiers were killed by a missile fired from a U.S. military helicopter on Monday.
Local officials said four others were wounded in the U.S. airstrike, which was targeting a military outpost in the eastern Logar province's Baraki Barak district.
Provincial police chief Mohammad Daoud Ahmadi said they had not requested the airstrike.
"We had an attack on Afghan forces this morning some 1,000-1,500 meters far from the main target," Ahmadi told Anadolu Agency. "The wounded soldiers were evacuated to the hospital."
The Taliban shot at the rescue team, forcing them to leave the bodies behind.
The Afghan Defense Ministry confirmed the incident, saying: "We have contacted the NATO-led forces to investigate the issue" but the U.S. forces were not available to comment.
The issue of "friendly fire" between foreign and local troops, as well as civilian casualties, has been a significant source of tensions between the Afghan government and NATO troops during their 14-year presence in Afghanistan.
