Oman- ROP orders five patrol boats from Spanish firm

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The ROP has signed a US$46mn contract to buy five 35.5m patrol boats from Spanish shipbuilder Rodman Polyships for its Coast Guard unit.

Lt Gen Hassan bin Mohsin al Shuraiqi inspector general of police and customs recently signed the agreement with the Spanish company at the ROP headquarters in Qurm.

The boats will be the first of a new glass-reinforced polyester design the Rodman 111 and the longest patrol craft the company has ever built.

The design has been developed by Rodman to meet Omani specifications.

These patrol vessels will be powered by two diesel engines of 16 cylinders and water jets allowing them to reach a maximum speed of 40 knots at full displacement. Each craft can carry a crew of 15.

The company said that the contract will be executed in two years and is Rodman's fourth with the ROP the previous being the delivery of three high-speed 30m long Rodman 101 boats in 2013.

'In this particular project Rodman consolidates as one of the most reputed and prestigious shipbuilders in GCC countries as this is the fourth time that the ROP Coast Guard has commissioned us a project trusting our reliability know-how and building quality' the company stated.

This is the second such contract that ROP signed this month. The earlier one was for 14 Watercat K13 Fast Interceptor Crafts (13.8m) from Finnish firm Marine Alutech Oy Ab.
