Qatar- Thousands offer Eid prayers across the country

The faithful turned up at mosques and prayer yards in big numbers around the country to perform Eid al-Fitr prayers early yesterday.

HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani took part in the prayers along with HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani the personal representative of the Emir and a number of sons of HH the Father Emir.

DrThaqeel Sayer al-Shammari Court of Cassation judge and Supreme Judiciary Council member who led the prayer delivered the Eid sermon in which he praised God Almighty for blessing the country and all Muslim nations with safety and security and urged Muslims to do good deeds work in line with God's directives visit each other and maintain ties with kinship as a good trait of believers.

He also urged Muslims to follow a moderate approach in implementing divine jurisdictions keeping away from intolerance or negligence.

Dr Al Shammari highlighted manifestations of corruption in terms of today's scenes of bloodshed killing innocent people bombing of mosques and violation of sanctity calling on the Muslim nation to unite and stand firmly against those who want to undermine it.

People from different walks of life and nationalities perfromed Eid prayers together in an atmosphere marked by camaraderie and festivity. As the prayers concluded they wished each other "Eid Mubarak".

Many locals and expatriates took their children who were in new clothes along for the Eid prayers which started shortly after 5am.

"Performing Eid prayers in the early hours marks the start of Eid. It should not be missed" said a young man after the prayers.

While a large number of people and vehicles had gathered in the designated areas entry exit and parking procedures were carried out without any hassles due to the presence of adequate traffic patrols at all key points. They reached the spots ahead of the prayers to ensure that things went off smoothly.

Several companies provided their expatriate workforce with buses to take them to and from the prayer venues.

Most roads in the country experienced limited traffic movement until the evening as people preferred to stay indoors and spend some quality time with their families and relatives. Many also chose to stay at home due to the hot and sultry weather. Public parks too received only a handful of visitors due to this.

Meanwhile many "single" workers as well as families exchanged Eid greetings through SMSes and social media.

There were some people though who preferred to go to the Corniche and beaches around the country in the early hours. Some also went for a short cruise on traditional dhows.
