Pakistan lodges protest with India over spy drone, ceasefire violation

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Indian High Commissioner was called in Pakistan Foreign Office by the Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry on Thursday to lodge strong protest over air space violation by an Indian spy drone, said Foreign Office.

A press release by Pakistan Foreign Office said that the Indian High Commissioner was called in Foreign Office to lodge strong protest over air space violation at Banchirian Sector when an Indian UAV (Spy Drone) entered Pakistan's air space in violation of the International Law, Pakistan's territorial integrity and the two Agreements of 1991 on Air Space Violation, and SOPs of Advance Notice for Military Exercises, Military Maneuvers and Troops Movement.

The Foreign Secretary also registered the Government's concern over Heli maneuvers near LoC on July 11, 2015, which was an offensive and threatening posture.

Moreover, the Foreign Secretary also protested the ceasefire violations, which took place on Thursday at LoC and Working Boundary (WB), resulting in the killing of four civilians and wounding three others.

He emphasized that in the spirit of maintaining peace and tranquility at the LoC and WB and the region at large, it was important that the 2003 Understanding on maintaining ceasefire is observed.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan military forces have shot down an Indian spy drone along the LoC in Pakistan side of Kashmir. The Himalayan territory of Kashmir, divided between India and Pakistan along the UN monitored de facto border of LoC, is the major cause of contention between the neighboring countries.

The incident comes after an ice-breaking meeting between Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in Russia that decided to arrange meetings of senior military officials to lower tensions along the LoC. (end) sbk.mt
