(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Worries were mounting Thursday that an underwater Norwegian tunnel could collapse after a tanker truck carrying more than 16,000 litres of petrol exploded there the day before, dpa reported.
No one was injured in the explosion, which caused huge plumes of
black smoke to billow from the entrance of the Skatestraum Tunnel in
Bremanger, which lies in the south-west, approximately 300 kilometres
north of Bergen.
Authorities have so far not been able to assess the damage to the
tunnel, which lies 90 metres underwater.
'We know that the damage is widespread, but we don't know how
sizeable it is,' a spokeswoman told Norwegian news agency NTB.
According to the report, the tunnel could remain closed for several
months.
